Recap by phillip woo

Viva Firecracker was gifted a soft time in front from gate nine and just scrambled in for a second win from his past three starts. He was fitter second up after tamely fading after setting a hot pace last start. Amazing Award got going late to finish a neck second after a one-out, one-back run. He rarely produces a bad run over this Valley trip. President Pegasus stayed on a close third after getting all favours in the box seat. It was a much-improved effort third up and first over the Valley 1,650m this term. Well Enough stayed on for fourth after a one-off trip from midfield. He has produced a decent sight in three consecutive runs following a downgrade. Best World ran on well along the inside for fifth following a rails run from behind midfield. It was a good effort in a race run to suit those up front at his first start over the Valley 1,650m. Gazeley made ground late for sixth after making his run at the rear from gate 12. Prestige Ricky was short of room late after a rails run from better than midfield. Favourite Quick Contribution never landed a blow ridden third last in a paceless race.

Horse No 8 GAZELEY (K253) M Chadwick Near the 550 Metres was checked to avoid LUCKY TOGETHER when racing keenly.

Near the 150 Metres made contact with LUCKY TOGETHER due to both runners shifting ground.

M Chadwick stated that from the outside barrier he had expected to take up a handy position.

He said when GAZELEY jumped awkwardly and lost ground he elected to ride the horse in a conservative manner.

Trainer K W Lui confirmed the instructions.

Horse No 10 QUICK CONTRIBUTION (K112) M F Poon M F Poon stated that the intention was to hold a midfield position.

He said when QUICK CONTRIBUTION jumped only fairly this resulted in the horse settling further back than intended.

He added that after following SILVERY KNIGHT during the race, when that runner did not take him into the event, he was disadvantaged by racing back in the field, particularly with the early and middle stages being run outside of standard time.

He added as a consequence QUICK CONTRIBUTION found it difficult to make up ground in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Whilst the Stewards acknowledged the circumstances of the race were not run to suit QUICK CONTRIBUTION, the performance was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race start.

Before being allowed to race again, QUICK CONTRIBUTION will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Sent for sampling post-race.
