Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed Chill Easy was four wide without cover travelling midfield before hitting the lead near the 200m and edging clear for a third win from his last four starts. The step up to 1,600m worked the oracle after an opening sixth over 1,400m this term. Early favourite Infinite Resolve rallied for second after a wide trip with cover from behind midfield. It was another honest performance this term. Californiatotality stayed on well for third after straightening three deep following a handy run one off the fence. He was able to build on a pleasing effort in one of two earlier Valley 1,800m runs this term.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine : (136) - LUKFOOK JOAILLERIE HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1600Meters

Horse No 1 ENSUED (H452) J Orman From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 2 SIX PACK (K061) L Ferraris Between the 300 Metres and the 100 Metres was held up for clear ruing behind DROMBEG BANNER.

Horse No 4 CHILL EASY (L148) C L Chau (See AWESOME FLUKE).

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 STUNNING PEACH (J301) C Y Ho Shortly after the start DROMBEG BANNER shifted in and made contact with STUNNING PEACH.

Horse No 7 DEFINITIVE (K037) K Teetan Bumped at the start.

Horse No 9 BRAVEFIELD (L513) Z Purton On jumping was steadied when crowded between INFINITE RESOLVE and REGAL GEM, both of which shifted ground.

Approaching the 400 Metres was shifted to the inside of STUNNING PEACH to obtain clear running.

Lay in under pressure in the Home Straight.

Horse No 10 INFINITE RESOLVE (K369) A Atzeni Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 REGAL GEM (K258) K C Leung From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

K C Leung reported that his mount settled back in the field and found it difficult to make up ground from that position in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 12 AWESOME FLUKE (J050) H Y Yuen When questioned Apprentice H Y Yuen stated that her instructions were to go forward and lead if circumstances permitted.

She said in accordance with her instructions she rode her mount along in the early stages, however, AWESOME FLUKE took some time to muster speed which resulted in a number of runners crossing her mount in the early stages.

She said when left without cover near the 1400 Metres AWESOME FLUKE then commenced to race keenly and her intention was to endeavour to obtain a position with cover behind DEFINITIVE.

She said when CALIFORNIATOTALITY maintained its position one-off behind DEFINITIVE, this resulted in AWESOME FLUKE being obliged to race wide and without cover.

When questioned if there was an opportunity to go forward from the 1300 Metres having regard to the early stages being run outside of standard time, Apprentice Yuen agreed with the Stewards that in retrospect she had made an error of judgement in not allowing her mount to stride forward, particularly as it was racing keenly.

She added that when positioned to the outside of DEFINITIVE she was mindful not to crowd runners to her inside and for this reason she remained racing three wide and without cover from the 900 Metres and into the Home Straight.

Trainer P F Yiu confirmed the instructions were to go forward and agreed with the Stewards that in retrospect Apprentice Yuen should have taken the initiative to go forward and cross DEFINITIVE.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the stablemate CHILL EASY, Mr Yiu advised that he had expected the horse to hold a midfield position and was surprised that AWESOME FLUKE remained three deep during the race, particularly from barrier 6 having regard to the instructions.

He said it was not the intention of the stable for this to occur and in the circumstances it was Apprentice Yuen's riding which led to CHILL EASY being able to obtain cover behind AWESOME FLUKE.

Horse No 13 DROMBEG BANNER (H117) Y L Chung Shifted out at the start and made contact with DEFINITIVE.

Shifted in shortly after the start and was bumped.

Y L Chung stated that he was able to lead the event in the early stages as expected.

He said from the 750 Metres DROMBEG BANNER was disadvantaged when pressured in the lead by AWESOME FLUKE and this resulted in DROMBEG BANNER not being able to finish the race off in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of DROMBEG BANNER was considered disappointing.

Before being allowed to race again, DROMBEG BANNER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Sent for sampling post-race.
