Grand Eagle had a rails run from behind midfield and quickened nicely to take control 80m out for a first win at his fourth local start. He was able to deliver a first Hong Kong win for trainer James Cummings. Mr Incredible flew home late down the outside for second after making his run at the rear from gate 11. It was a solid effort carrying top weight first up. Gloryspeed stayed on a non-threatening third after a one-off trip from midfield. He was able to build on a debut fourth 18 days ago. Honest Witness lost third in the concluding stages after leading by five lengths coming to the final bend. He is looking for Class Four.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine : (116) - LEK YUEN HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 MR INCREDIBLE (L232) K Teetan Bumped at the start.

When questioned K Teetan stated that his instructions were to settle the horse where comfortable and if possible obtain a position midfield with cover, particularly under its top weight of 135 lbs.

He said in the early stages when positioned to the outside of MAKE YOU SMILE, MR INCREDIBLE made contact with that runner when MAKE YOU SMILE shifted out slightly.

He said when caught wide to the outside of MAKE YOU SMILE, he contemplated following LA FORZA but when MR INCREDIBLE was not travelling well enough to do so he elected to obtain a trailing position behind MAKE YOU SMILE to save ground and allow the horse to travel where comfortable.

He added after following MAKE YOU SMILE in the middle stages he improved to that runner's outside on entering the Home Straight where his mount finished the race off well.

Trainer B Crawford confirmed the instructions issued.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 SMART GOLF (L004) H Bentley In the middle stages raced keenly and refused to settle.

H Bentley stated that the instructions were to hold a more forward position but his mount was slow to begin and then did not show sufficient pace in the early stages to go forward.

He added in the Home Straight his mount was disappointing in the manner in which it finished the race off.

Trainer F C Lor confirmed the instructions were to go forward and, in his opinion, SMART GOLF was disadvantaged by settling back in the field.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of SMART GOLF was considered disappointing.

Before being allowed to race again, SMART GOLF will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 4 MAKE YOU SMILE (K426) L Ferraris After travelling a short distance L Ferraris was required to reposition his right foot in his stirrup.

Jockey Ferraris was spoken to in relation to this and advised he must ensure that he has his foot properly secured in his stirrup prior to the commencement of every race.

Horse No 6 GRAND EAGLE (L336) C L Chau Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 9 LA FORZA (J285) B Avdulla Bumped at the start.

B Avdulla stated that the instructions were to hold a midfield position.

He said when unable to cross runners to his inside in the early stages LA FORZA was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 10 HAPPY SHOOTER (J427) L Hewitson Between the 350 Metres and the 250 Metres had some difficulty obtaining clear running.

Horse No 11 THOUSAND SPIRIT (K365) H Y Yuen Knuckled on jumping.

Horse No 12 HONEST WITNESS (K283) P N Wong The tongue tie was refitted at the Start.

Horse No 7 SUPER STRONG KID (K180) C Y Ho Was withdrawn at the Start by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice after it was found to be lame in its right front leg.

Before being allowed to race again, SUPER STRONG KID will be subjected to an official veterinary examination which must include additional diagnostic assessments.
