Recap by phillip woo

Punted late Gutsy Bravo was ridden patiently second last from gate 11 and quickened nicely down the outside to take control 50m out for a maiden win at start four. He had run well from wide draws in two of three outings last term. Navas G just got the nose down for second after getting held up early straight following a box-seat run. He was able to build on a third last month. Whacked to jump favourite, Cirrus Speed just failed to get up for second after making his run behind midfield on the fence following a slow start. He lived up to an opening win in Class Five this term. Never Settle ran on steadily near the outside for fourth after a one-off trip from behind midfield. It was a good run off a 242- day break. Thunder Prince faded after tracking the leader Happy Special from gate five.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five : (112) - LUNG HANG HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 REAL GENTLEMAN (K534) K C Leung Jumped awkwardly.

Bumped near the 500 Metres.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 2 WOLF COMING (K353) L Hewitson Approaching the 300 Metres improved into a narrow run to the inside of NAVAS G.

Between the 300 Metres and the 200 Metres was held up for clear running behind HAPPY SPECIAL.

WOLF COMING was then shifted to the outside of HAPPY SPECIAL and NAVAS G to secure clear running at the 150 Metres.

Over the final 100 Metres WOLF COMING was held up for clear running between NAVAS G and THUNDER PRINCE.

Horse No 3 COSMO DRAGON (L510) H T Mo From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Near the 450 Metres was steadied to avoid GUTSY BRAVO (J Orman) which shifted out and away from REAL GENTLEMAN.

J Orman was advised to exercise more care.

H T Mo reported that his mount raced greenly throughout the event and in the early stages raced keenly when being steadied to obtain cover.

Horse No 5 SHARP PLANET (L308) E C W Wong Jumped only fairly.

From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 6 SMILING SKY (K447) C L Chau Over the final 100 Metres raced tight between VOYAGE CAPTAIN and THUNDER PRINCE.

Horse No 7 VOYAGE CAPTAIN (L001) H Y Yuen Raced keenly throughout the early stages.

For some distance approaching the 900 Metres was checked to avoid SMILING SKY when SMILING SKY was being steadied to obtain a position with cover.

Near the 100 Metres was bumped on the hindquarters by CIRRUS SPEED which was improving to the outside of VOYAGE CAPTAIN, resulting in VOYAGE CAPTAIN becoming unbalanced.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 8 GUTSY BRAVO (L178) J Orman Jumped awkwardly.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 9 NEVER SETTLE (K417) M L Yeung For some distance leaving the 1000 Metres raced tight to the inside of VOYAGE CAPTAIN.

Near the 900 Metres was steadied to avoid SMILING SKY (C L Chau) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear.

C L Chau was severely reprimanded.

Near the 500 Metres shifted out slightly and became unbalanced when it made contact with REAL GENTLEMAN.

Horse No 10 NAVAS G (L194) L Ferraris Between the 400 Metres and the 300 Metres was held up for clear running.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 THUNDER PRINCE (K017) B Avdulla Over the concluding stages made contact with SMILING SKY, resulting in its rider B Avdulla having to correct his mount.

Horse No 12 CIRRUS SPEED (K279) M F Poon When questioned M F Poon stated that his instructions were to go forward and lead if possible.

He said CIRRUS SPEED jumped only fairly and shifted in, resulting in his mount losing ground at the start.

He said despite riding his mount along in the early stages he was unable to hold a more forward position.

He said after following WOLF COMING in the early stages, when WOLF COMING was eased near the 900 Metres, his mount commenced to race keenly and as a result got its head up when being checked to avoid WOLF COMING.

He added throughout the middle stages CIRRUS SPEED continued to race keenly and did not settle.

He further stated that on entering the Home Straight he improved to the inside of NEVER SETTLE and had observed VOYAGE CAPTAIN improving into the event.

He said for this reason he then elected to shift to the outside of SMILING SKY to follow VOYAGE CAPTAIN into the race but when NEVER SETTLE held its position to his outside he then had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 250 Metres and the 150 Metres.

He said after making contact with VOYAGE CAPTAIN near the 100 Metres his mount was then able to obtain clear running and finished the race off well.

When questioned if there was an opportunity to shift to the inside of SMILING SKY near the 300 Metres to follow THUNDER PRINCE, M F Poon stated that he had committed to the run to the outside of SMILING SKY when a run did develop between THUNDER PRINCE and SMILING SKY and as a result he was not able to take advantage of that position.

Sent for sampling post-race.
