Race Nine : (96) - SAN TIN HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 SWIFT ASCEND (H395) Z Purton Near the 250 Metres became held up behind ON THE WAY.
When being directed to the outside of ON THE WAY, SWIFT ASCEND was then awkwardly placed close to the heels of ON THE WAY when it shifted out.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 2 GALACTIC VOYAGE (K514) C L Chau Shortly after the start was steadied to avoid SWIFT ASCEND which was taken out by ON THE WAY.
Horse No 3 HAPPY INDEX (L152) C Y Ho Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 4 COOL BOY (L014) A Badel Jumped only fairly.
Approaching the 400 Metres made contact with ELITE GOLF when being shifted to the outside of SHANGHAI WARRIOR to obtain clear running.
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of A Badel, 6th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ensure that he fully rides his mounts out to the finish of the race.
Horse No 5 ON THE WAY (L154) H T Mo Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 6 ELITE GOLF (L023) H Bentley Bumped approaching the 400 Metres.
H Bentley stated that his instructions were to go forward.
He said when caught very wide in the early stages he elected to take a trailing position behind SHANGHAI WARRIOR near the 800 Metres which resulted in ELITE GOLF settling further back than intended.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 7 EVER LUCK (K235) L Hewitson L Hewitson stated that after leading the event his mount failed to respond to his riding and gave ground noticeably in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings other than the horse had sustained a small laceration to the right stifle.
Horse No 8 MEGASTAR HEART (L056) L Ferraris Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 10 EMBRACE ABERDEEN (L020) A Atzeni When questioned A Atzeni stated that he expected to hold a more forward position, however, when a number of runners showed superior pace his mount settled further back than he had anticipated.
Horse No 11 SHANGHAI WARRIOR (L434) M F Poon A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 12 ENDURANCE EXPRESS (L397) M Chadwick Jumped awkwardly.
Shortly after the start blundered.
M Chadwick stated that with the early stages being run inside of standard time his mount was under pressure throughout the race and also did not appreciate racing amongst other horses during the event.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Punted late Megastar Heart tracked the speed from gate three before cruising to the lead 300m out and proving too smart for a first win at his fourth local start. He's returned an improved runner after an OK fifth in July. Swift Ascend ran on nicely for second after having to switch sharply off heels for a clear run 200m out following a one-off trip from midfield. It was a solid return to races carrying top weight following a fetlock injury in March. Favourite Happy Index stayed on a non-threatening third after a prominent run along the inside following a sluggish start. He has honest Sha Tin 1,200m form.
