Recap by phillip woo

Heavily backed Kempes was ridden third last and overhauled raging favourite Bustling City late on for back-to-back wins this season. He was able to handle a rise in class with 13lb less. Bustling City found one better on the day after assuming the lead 800m out chasing the hot pace of Cala Dei Mori from gate two. The 11lb rise in weight took its toll after a win. Punted late Lucy In The Sky kept on one paced to finish a distant third settling third in the run from gate six. He continues to hold his form. Sky Cap ran on steadily for fourth after a one-off trip from midfield. It was an okay effort on his return to the dirt.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four : (91) - LAU FAU SHAN HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

Horse No 2 BUSTLING CITY (L210) B Avdulla Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 SKY CAP (K125) K C Leung Was examined at the Start by the Veterinary Officer and found to be suitable to race.

Horse No 6 CALA DEI MORI (L428) E C W Wong When questioned regarding his riding of CALA DEI MORI and the reason he rode his mount forward to race outside BUSTLING CITY, E C W Wong confirmed that his instructions were to go forward and take up a position behind the expected leaders BUSTLING CITY and LUCY IN THE SKY.

He said as his mount does have a tendency to jump fairly he ensured that CALA DEI MORI jumped well and then rode his mount along in the early stages to comply with his instructions.

He said after riding his mount along and when caught wide to the outside of LUCY IN THE SKY, CALA DEI MORI, which was racing in blinkers for the first time, then commenced to race keenly and as a result he improved forward of LUCY IN THE SKY to race outside BUSTLING CITY.

He added in the early stages CALA DEI MORI would not settle and as a result the pace of the event was run faster than he would have preferred, however, his mount would not respond to his efforts to set a more sustainable pace.

He said from the 800 Metres CALA DEI MORI settled better and he was able to restrain the horse to obtain a position further back from BUSTLING CITY.

Trainer C S Shum confirmed the instructions were to obtain a position with cover behind the expected leaders and agreed that CALA DEI MORI raced keenly with blinkers being applied for the first time.

After considering his explanation the Stewards advised Jockey Wong that he had made an error of judgement in the early stages by riding his mount along which resulted in CALA DEI MORI racing too keenly, particularly as he was aware that the horse had raced keenly in its two barrier trials on 19 September 2026 and 2 October 2026 when it wore blinkers on those occasions.

Jockey Wong was further advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to show better judgement than what he did on this occasion so as to leave no room for query.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 KEMPES (J265) A Atzeni From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 9 ZHUANG YUAN GLORY (L546) H Y Yuen Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Apprentice H Y Yuen stated that the horse did not appreciate the kickback in the early stages on the All Weather surface.

Horse No 10 DRAGON JOY (J278) M Chadwick The performance of DRAGON JOY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, DRAGON JOY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
