Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu and senior administration officials issued a formal apology on Thursday for the city’s deadliest fire in decades. Lee announced that secretary for housing Winnie Ho Wing-yin had stepped down on Wednesday after being held politically accountable for last November’s blaze at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po. The city leader also unveiled a series of follow-up actions and systemic reforms to be implemented in response to a scathing report by an independent committee appointed to investigate the disaster.
