Excitement was in the air as the first travellers crossed between Hong Kong and mainland China using the revamped Huanggang Port facility. The joint project backed by Hong Kong and the mainland city of Shenzhen opened Monday after six years of redevelopment work. The border checkpoint is the first between Hong Kong and the mainland that uses a “joint clearance” system for immigration procedures.
