China’s biggest chilli sauce maker Lao Gan Ma denies online rumours of mass lay-offs triggered by AI

The maker of China’s most popular condiment, Lao Gan Ma chilli sauce, has denied online claims that it used AI to replace hundreds of human workers. The rumours on Weibo said the company slashed 92 per cent of its workforce after implementing an AI system. The company said its executives’ comments, made during a speech earlier this month, were edited and that it had never made lay-offs of that scale.
