Chinese live-streamer reportedly held for US$90,000 ransom in Myanmar

A Chinese live-streaming host is reportedly being held for ransom in Myanmar in what appears to be the latest case of a victim being lured to work at a scam centre in Southeast Asia. Wang Ran’s family said the 24-year-old is being held for a 600,000 yuan (US$90,000) ransom. They allege she was first lured to Thailand by an online acquaintance for a work trip. She later told a friend in a phone call that she was being held against her will in Myanmar.
