From Indonesia and Nepal to the Philippines, nations across Asia have seen a wave of protests involving young people. In the Philippines, there was unrest initially stemming from poor flooding management. In Indonesia, lawmakers’ perks were the trigger for protesters to rally against what they saw as government corruption. Social media is increasingly being used to vent anger and expose the lavish lifestyles of the elite and their families, in places where many average citizens struggle to make a living.
