Chinese artificial intelligence pioneer SenseTime has open-sourced a “world model” and kicked off its foray into the burgeoning field of embodied intelligence by releasing its first robotic dogs.
The Hong Kong-listed AI firm’s new venture, Ace Robotics, on Thursday released Kairos 3.0, an open-source model that simulates the physical world, and a developer platform called “KaiWu” that supports embodied intelligence applications.
“Ace Robotics will promote the large-scale commercialisation of embodied intelligence and build an independent and controllable development path for China to lead the world in this technology,” said SenseTime co-founder and executive director Wang Xiaogang, who also serves as chairman at Ace Robotics.
According to the SenseTime-backed venture, Kairos 3.0 would give every robot a “smart brain”, as the open-source world model “understands the physical laws of the real world”.
The product announcement reflected the growing interest of prominent AI companies – including Tencent Holdings, Google DeepMind, Elon Musk’s xAI and SenseTime – in the field of “spatial intelligence”, which would provide virtual environments to train AI-powered robots.
SenseTime’s wealth of real-world data would give it an advantage in developing useful robots through powerful world models, Wang said in a group media briefing.

According to SenseTime, Kairos 3.0 was developed to run on graphics processing units from Chinese chip designers, such as MetaX Integrated Circuits and Biren Technology, whose products are expected to “surpass top international chips”.
Earlier this week, SenseTime said its new video-generation model, Seko 2.0, was “successfully adapted” to chips designed by Cambricon Technologies, after the two firms entered into a strategic partnership in October.
Blacklisted by Washington on human rights grounds, SenseTime was one of the first Chinese tech firms to adopt locally designed chips to power its AI efforts.
On Thursday, the company also announced a strategic partnership with Ace Robotics and Beijing-based supercomputer maker Sugon to build “full-stack domestic capabilities in the field of embodied intelligence”.
SenseTime co-founder and chief scientist Lin Dahua told the Post earlier this month that the company was well positioned to lead the next phase of AI, as the industry shifts towards multimodal systems and embodied intelligence amid a growing debate about the limits of large language models (LLMs) such as those behind OpenAI’s ChatGPT and DeepSeek.
As one of China’s “AI dragons” that led the world in AI-powered facial recognition systems, SenseTime had closely observed the industry’s increased interest in innovative start-ups like DeepSeek and Moonshot AI amid the boom in LLM development.
SenseTime’s stock closed 4.06 per cent lower at HK$1.89 on Thursday, after the company placed 1.75 billion new class B shares at HK$1.80 per share, an 8.6 per cent discount from the previous day’s closing price.
