Coleman Wong will get an early chance at revenge against Andrey Rublev for his US Open exit, with the pair thrown together in the quarter-finals of next week’s Ultimate Tennis Series in Hong Kong.
In the other matches, top seed and world No 7 Alex de Minaur will take on China’s Zhang Zhizhen, while Jerry Shang Juncheng, in as a late replacement, faces the Czech Republic’s Jakub Mensik.
But there is no Nick Kyrgios in the draw, with organisers announcing on Tuesday that the Australian had pulled out of the event injured, as has Tomas Machac.
A clash between Latin America’s top-ranked Francisco Cerundolo and French star Adrian Mannarino, the other replacement, rounds out the last eight.
Fans will still get to see Kyrgios, with the 30-year-old planning to attend the two-day tournament at Kai Tak Arena to take part in some of the events.

“My knee injury unfortunately means I won’t be able to compete in Hong Kong, which is incredibly disappointing,” Kyrgios said. “However, I will still be there to support the event and the fans. The tennis promised to be incredible, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
Wong and Rublev’s titanic five-set battle in the third round at Flushing Meadows, which the world No 14 eventually won 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, marked the best performance ever by a Hong Kong player at any grand slam and propelled the Hongkonger into the international spotlight.
Some US$1.1 million, and the Zeus Trophy, is up for grabs next week, with the winner taking home US$305,700. Results in Hong Kong, meanwhile, could help decide who qualifies for the season-ending UTS Grand Final in London in December.
Elsewhere, an exhausted Emma Raducanu had her blood pressure checked during a medical timeout before retiring while trailing 6-1, 4-1 to Ann Li in the first round of the women’s singles at the Wuhan Open on Tuesday, where temperatures soared to nearly 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit).
Raducanu, who is expected to play in the Prudential Hong Kong Open later this month, began with a break of serve, but that was as good as it got for the British No 1.
She won only seven points as she lost the next six games in a row, appearing devoid of energy, and after a similarly uncompetitive second set, Raducanu shook hands with Li after a medical timeout.
Dizziness was given as the reason for Raducanu’s retirement, and American Li said: “I hope she feels better. I don’t know what happened, but you could tell towards the end she was maybe not moving as much. But, for me, it was a good match.”
