Rafael Nadal, 22-time grand slam winner, to retire from professional tennis at end of season
The Spaniard, who won 92 titles and the French Open a record 14 times, says in a video released on X he will retire after the Davis Cup finals
Rafael Nadal on Thursday announced he will retire after the Davis Cup finals in November, ending a career which brought 22 Grand Slam titles, global respect and inspired epic, iconic rivalries with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
The 38-year-old, whose 22 grand slam wins included 14 French Open titles, announced the news in a video message posted on X.
He said: “Hello everyone. I’m here to let you know that I am retiring from professional tennis.”
“It has been some difficult years, these last two especially,” he said in a video.
“It is obviously a difficult decision, one that has taken me some time to make. But in this life everything has a beginning and an end.
