Public registration for the AIA Hyrox Hong Kong 2027 fitness race opens on Thursday at 6pm local time, following a 48-hour affiliate presale that saw local gyms report fierce demand and the selling out of ticket allocations in minutes.
The event, scheduled for January 7 to 10 at AsiaWorld-Expo, has been extended to four days to accommodate surging demand.
Since debuting locally in 2022, the mass-participation fitness event has drawn almost 20,000 participants to its standard race format combining 1km running segments with functional workout stations.
Demand during the 48-hour early access window, for members of Official Hyrox Training Clubs, which opened at 6pm on Tuesday, triggered an immediate rush among gym-goers across the city.
At Coastal Fitness in Tin Hau, a 200-ticket presale allocation vanished almost instantly.
“The demand during the affiliate presale was extremely strong,” Isabelle Wolfe, general manager at Coastal Fitness, said. “We had 200 available tickets and they all sold out in about 20 minutes. It was really cool to see.”

Wolfe noted that members set alarms and waited online early to secure their spots, reflecting Hyrox’s growing status as a key fixture on Hong Kong’s athletic calendar.
“In the beginning, it was mainly the more competitive athletes from our gym taking part, but now we’re seeing a huge increase in everyday members who are looking for a new challenge and a clear goal to work towards,” she said, adding that doubles and relay formats have made competitive fitness far more accessible.
The scramble was equally evident at other affiliate venues. At a Kennedy Town branch of a major 24-hour fitness chain, where each location received a 50-ticket allocation for its members, a queue began forming outside three hours before Tuesday’s early access started.
“People came over at around 3pm to line up even though they knew registration started at 6pm,” a gym staff member said, noting that staff handed out queue tokens at 5.30pm to maintain order.
By 5pm on Wednesday, only eight of the branch’s 50 spots remained, before the gym announced on its official social media account 20 minutes later that all allocations were completely sold out.
“Compared with last year, it’s even more exaggerated this year because it’s become so popular,” the staff member said, adding that her branch drew a diverse mix of local residents, mainlanders and expatriates.
She also warned of the physical risks involved if gym-goers competed without sufficient conditioning.
“The injury risk is relatively high because some of the required movements are quite dangerous,” she said, comparing the race’s physical strain to running a marathon. “If you haven’t done proper training, it’s easy to get injured.”
The 2027 event will feature open and elite individual divisions, doubles and four-person relays across men’s, women’s and mixed categories, catering to participants of all fitness backgrounds, including adaptive athletes.
