British snooker player Jack Lisowski hinted he could follow in the footsteps of Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump and take up Hong Kong residency.
The world No 22 was speaking after his 5-4 defeat to O’Sullivan at the Macau Masters on Wednesday in his only match at Wynn Palace.
Lisowski said he would be open to calling Hong Kong his home under the city’s Quality Migrant Admission Scheme as Trump and O’Sullivan have done in October and December, respectively.
“Hong Kong is a really nice place, so who knows the future,” he said. “I’ve got an open mind, but at the moment I’m spending a lot of time in Dubai as well.
“So it would be pretty cool if I had the United Kingdom and then Dubai and then Hong Kong as well. I know that’s what Judd’s got now, so maybe I’ll do the same.”

The 33-year-old said he was keen on an English-speaking location, and was impressed by how much more welcoming people are in Hong Kong.
“I really like Sydney, I love the Bund in Shanghai, and Hong Kong just reminds me of both of those. It’s just as good and beautiful,” Lisowski said. “I’ve got friends that live here, the culture is quite similar to the UK and I just love it.
“Everyone speaks English so they can understand me; I just like it [here] and feel alive. Hong Kong is similar to the UK but maybe it reminds me more of Sydney, just a bit more tropical, and everyone is a bit more relaxed, and people seem a bit more friendly than in the UK, [where] they’re not so friendly.”
A professional since 2010, Lisowski is still searching for his first ranking tournament title going into his 15th season, but has already pinpointed the stage and location at which he would like to break his duck.
“I want it to be in China, or the World Championships, I just want it to be a big tournament,” he said. “I’ve been waiting for so long and I want it to be a big one.
“They’re just big tournaments [in China]; it’s just my dream to win a big one and I think the biggest tournaments are in China, and the World Championships.”
With six ranking tournament final defeats in as many appearances, Lisowski said he did have some “tough ones” in the past, but is playing well now and that some “good results” are coming soon.
“I am enjoying the snooker, my game is getting better,” he said. “I’ve played some really good stuff and I feel like I’m close to playing my best now.
“There’s a big tournament in Hong Kong in a few months and obviously there’s the World Championships. It’s going to be good at Yushan [with the World Open]. There are enough big tournaments in China, so I want to try and win something for sure.”
Meanwhile, the city’s snooker boss said there could yet be another renowned player lining up to take up residency in Hong Kong soon.
Vincent Law Wing-chung, chairman of the Hong Kong Billiard Sports Control Council, said in a radio interview on Friday that an applicant ranks “inside the top 10” and that the city is slowly becoming a world snooker base.
Sources with knowledge of the development told the Post the applicant is “a former world champion” and more information could be revealed next month.
