The Asian Tour has cut ties with LIV Golf and signed a partnership agreement with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour in another shake-up of the game globally.
In a joint statement released on Tuesday, the three organisations said the deal would run “through until at least 2029”, and hailed the start of a “new chapter for global golf”.
The partnership would be “effective immediately”, the statement said, adding it would establish pathways for the leading players on the Asian Tour, and would see the DP World Tour return to co-sanctioning events in the region.
Discussions are believed to be under way to give players who finish in the top five of the Asian Tour order of merit, DPWT cards for the following season.
Cho Minn Thant, commissioner and CEO of the Asian Tour, said his organisation had felt like it was the right time “to collaborate with the DP World Tour and PGA Tour to enhance the Asian Tour for our members, fans and partners”.
“Bringing the three Tours together under one partnership will increase the bandwidth of the professional game in Asia,” he added. “Not only will co-sanctioning events see our members competing regularly on the global stage, but we are also excited to welcome players from the other tours to our pinnacle events, which showcase the strength and diversity of golf in Asia.”

While there has been no official response from LIV, which has bankrolled the Asian Tour’s International Series to the tune of US$300 million cash and provided pathways for the region’s players to join the team league, sources close to the Asian Tour said their previous partners “weren’t impressed” by the news.
Meanwhile, the future of the series, which came with far higher prize money than available at normal Asian Tour events, has been thrown into doubt, with sources acknowledging that its survival was a “tricky” subject.
With the Tour on its traditional summer break, the next series event on the schedule is the Link Hong Kong Open in October. The most recent series event was held in Morocco in June and was won by Taichi Kho.
Officially, the Tour said its priority was to “maintain The International Series events planned for later this year in some form and to finish with a strong run of tournaments at the end of the season”.
A spokesman added that there were “still a lot of details to be worked out”.
“We will continue to provide updates as soon as possible,” the spokesman added. “We appreciate there are many questions, but we would be grateful if you could give us a few weeks to pin down the specifics.”
Any co-sanctioning of regular tour events, such as the Hong Kong Open, which was a joint venture with the European Tour from 2001 to 2018, will begin next year, with details announced when the DPWT outlines its 2027 schedule later this year.
The two tours previously had a strategic alliance from 2016 to 2021. That formalised a relationship which originally began in February 1999 when the Malaysian Open became the first tournament to be co-sanctioned by the two organisations.
Ben Cowen, the DPWT’s chief tournament and operations officer, said the tour was “delighted to rekindle our historic relationship with the Asian Tour”.
“As golf’s global tour, we bring together the best international talent and the formal pathways established by this partnership will provide unprecedented international opportunities for Asian Tour members.
“Our agreement therefore represents not only a hugely positive step for golf in Asia, but also an exciting new era of collaboration for our game globally.”
