Hong Kong to stage 2027 Hyrox World Championships in ‘full-circle moment’ for sport
From staging the inaugural competition in Asia-Pacific in 2022 with fewer than 1,000 athletes, Hong Kong saw some 20,000 take part this year
Hong Kong will stage next year’s Hyrox World Championships, officials announced in Stockholm on Thursday.
The sport’s pinnacle event will be held at the AsiaWorld-Expo in June, and organisers said it marked a “full-circle moment for the sport”.
Four years ago, the city was the stage for the first Hyrox event in the Asia-Pacific region, attracting fewer than 1,000 competitors. In May, almost 20,000 took part in the city’s sixth race.
More than 1 million viewers are expected to watch this weekend’s World Championships in Sweden, and Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui said bringing the multi-day competition to the city “underscores Hong Kong’s appeal as a premier tourist destination”.
