Manchester United risk failing to sell out their game in Hong Kong this week, despite bringing a star-studded squad on their tour of Asia.
According to the ticketing website Cityline, it was still possible to buy tickets ranging from HK$1,990 (US$254) to HK$2,990 for Friday’s clash against a Hong Kong XI, while a limited number at HK$1,390 have also gone unsold.
While organisers have declined to say how many have been snapped up, with a limited number priced between HK$390 and HK$1,190 selling out early, thousands of seats are believed to still be available.
And some people who have already bought tickets were trying to offload them at discounted rates on social media.
On Monday, one Facebook user was looking to offload two HK$2,990 tickets for HK$2,300 each, with users in the comments offering as little as HK$500 for the pair.
Another was looking to get rid of two HK$1,990 tickets, with offers coming in from as little as HK$200 for both.

The frustration mirrors the response to the initial announcement of the ticket prices for the event.
“Those who bought the cheaper tickets may only have wanted to see the Hong Kong team, a ticket is usually HK$200, they may not think it’s worthwhile to pay an extra few hundred to watch Manchester United,” one user wrote at the time
Another questioned why watching United at the old stadium was going to cost more than July’s Football Festival at Kai Tak Stadium, which will feature Liverpool v AC Milan and Arsenal against Tottenham.
“HK$2,499 to watch football stars v HK$2,990 to watch players of a bottom half team, even a fool knows which to pick,” the user wrote.
United have included Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho as part of their strong 32-man group, despite UK media reports suggesting the duo could leave Old Trafford.
Keen to avoid a repeat of the Lionel Messi controversy in 2024, United have left out only injured players, such as Lisandro Martinez, Noussair Mazraoui and Leny Yoro, or those whose contracts are ending, such as Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof.
Defender Matthijs de Ligt, who missed Thursday’s 1-0 defeat by Tottenham in the Europa League final through injury, is part of the travelling squad.
It has been a dismal campaign for Ruben Amorim’s side, with Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa enough to lift them to 15th in the Premier League table, while the loss against Spurs meant they will not be playing European football next season.
United face the Asean All-Stars in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday before Friday’s clash with a Hong Kong XI.
