Where now for Ange Postecoglou?

Blues’ boost
Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea received a huge boost to their ambitions of qualifying for the Uefa Champions League with a 1-0 victory over Tottenham.

Enzo Fernandez scored the game’s only legitimate goal of the game on 50 minutes before both sides had strikes ruled out by VAR.
Postecoglou was seen cupping his ear to the away fans after Pape Sarr thought he had equalised for the visitors and suggested afterwards he just “wanted them to get really excited. I felt at that point we could potentially go on and win the game”.
The result leaves Spurs 14th with their domestic campaign petering out and the Uefa Europa League remaining as potential salvation to their dreadful season.
For Chelsea, this is their third win in four matches but their first against a side not in the relegation zone for two months.
Victory moved them back into fourth, above Manchester City and two points clear of sixth-place Newcastle United in what is increasingly a tense battle for Champions League qualification.
Olmo on board

Spain’s sports council (CSD) said Dani Olmo and Pau Victor will be able to play for Barcelona until the end of the season after a case between the club and La Liga.
However, La Liga said they would appeal the decision as it was “not in accordance with the law”.
The financially-struggling Catalan giants sold seats in VIP boxes at their under-construction Camp Nou stadium to Middle Eastern investors to help pass La Liga’s strict financial fair-play restrictions for the new licences.
Barcelona have been in financial difficulty for several years and in 2022 sold various parts of the club and future television rights income to be able to sign stars including Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha.
Spending in the coming summer transfer window will be difficult for Barcelona without prior sales if La Liga’s view of their financial situation remains the same.
Tennis stars’ stance

Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sabalenka and Zheng Qinwen are among 20 leading tennis players who signed a letter sent to the heads of the four grand slam tournaments seeking more prize money and a greater say in what they called “decisions that directly impact us”.
At the bottom of the message are the handwritten signatures of 10 of the top 11 women in the rankings from the week of March 3 – Elena Rybakina’s name is missing – and the full list of the top 10 men that week.
The women are the No 1-ranked Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys, Jasmine Paolini, Emma Navarro, Zheng, Paula Badosa and Mirra Andreeva. The men are the No 1-ranked Sinner, Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alex de Minaur.
Of the 20, 15 have won at least one grand slam title or reached a major final.
The players outlined three areas they wanted to focus on:
– Grand slam tournaments should make financial contributions to player welfare programmes funded by the two pro tours.
– Prize money should increase “to a more appropriate percentage of tournament revenues, reflective of the players’ contribution to tournament value”.
– The athletes should have more say in decisions “directly impacting competition, as well as player health and welfare”.
