No goals for Cole as Chelsea thrash Saints, Barcelona and Atletico in 8-goal thriller
It’s now seven games without a goal for Cole Palmer, but Chelsea end run of three consecutive defeats with 4-0 win at home
Just to prove that Cole Palmer’s cold streak is not limited to games against good teams, he failed to score against Southampton on Tuesday, a side with the most obliging of defences.
Still, at least his teammates knew where the goal was. A 4-0 thrashing of Southampton got the Chelsea bandwagon rolling again.
In fact, there were goals galore across the football spectrum overnight, so, here’s a quick look at what happened while you were sleeping.
Normal service (almost) resumed
It has not been a great 2025 so far for Chelsea, but playing Southampton is always likely to raise any team’s spirits, and Enzo Maresca side moved into the Premier League top four with a comfortable win at Stamford Bridge.
Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto and Levi Colwill all scored in the first half to ensure Chelsea ended a run of three consecutive defeats, while Marc Cucurella rounded things off 12 minutes from time.
Palmer, who now hasn’t scored in seven games, meanwhile conspired to waste a host of chances, the best of which came midway through the first half when he was played clean through one-on-one with Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. He delayed and delayed and then shot too close to Ramsdale, who parried the effort away.
