Vintage charm is blended with modern elegance in a timeless Hong Kong flat

Needing a designer to renovate his newly purchased, 38-year-old apartment in Central, businessman Harry Sun found the perfect fit in an unexpected place. He and interior designer Dominic Cheung, co-founder of Crimson Company, were both regulars at the same tailor’s shop – and when their paths crossed, the introduction sparked an instant connection. The two shared sensibilities that extended beyond sartorial savoir faire to a mutual appreciation for classicism with a youthful touch.

Thus began a harmonious collaboration to make over the 620 sq ft mid-rise apartment in quintessentially “old” Hong Kong, with its views of historic St Paul’s Church ringed by mature trees.

Sating his penchant for vintage and antique European designs, Sun already had an assemblage of finds he’d been collecting from markets since his university days in Britain. These would inform the interiors, as Cheung revised the floor plan from two bedrooms to one, enabling a bigger dining room and a slightly enlarged bathroom.

“Our goal was to create a space with a strong, yet quiet, architectural identity that feels both intentional and deeply personal,” says Cheung. “By integrating classic European details within a modern, clean envelope, we created a backdrop designed not to dominate, but to age gracefully over the years.”
