China woman, 63, gives birth to baby girl after conceiving via IVF following loss of only child
The woman and her husband believe the baby will give them the strength to move forward
A 63-year-old woman from northeastern China, who lost her only child last year and sought another offspring for spiritual support, recently gave birth to a baby girl.
The woman delivered the baby on March 4 via caesarean section at a hospital in Songyuan, Jilin province, about two weeks ahead of her due date, as reported by the Sanxiang Metropolis News.
Both the mother and her baby, who weighs 2.8kg, are in good health, the report stated.
The grey-haired mother, whose name was not disclosed in the report, garnered significant attention on mainland Chinese social media for conceiving through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) at an advanced age following the death of her only child in February last year.
Her son, aged 35, was the sole child of her and her husband. He passed away due to an undisclosed form of cancer.
