Air passengers continued to face disruptions on Monday as at least a dozen departures were delayed at Hong Kong airport due to Typhoon Noul, after hundreds of flights were cancelled over the weekend.
The Airport Authority, which operates Hong Kong International Airport, said on Monday evening that operations had returned to normal and that it expected to handle 900 flights for the whole day.
It said airlines would consider factors such as fleet and crew capacity, destination airport time slot availability and customer preferences when handling post-typhoon arrangements for affected passengers.
According to the airport website, 12 departing flights initially scheduled for Sunday had been rescheduled for Monday, including three due to depart between 5pm and 11.15pm.

While passengers formed orderly queues at check-in counters in the morning, dozens of stranded travellers who had spent the night on seats were still waiting for airlines to clear backlogs from delayed flights.
Typhoon Noul triggered the city’s first No 8 and No 9 storm signals of the year over the weekend and led to the cancellation of about 400 flights. Although all typhoon warnings were cancelled on Sunday evening, some travellers said their flights had been rescheduled for Monday evening.
Among them was Xing Tai from Beijing, who said her Saturday flight home had been cancelled, leaving her stranded at the airport for a full day.
“The bad weather and the cancellation affected my mood a bit. It’s also been a few days since I’ve seen my cats and I miss them a lot,” the 27-year-old said.
Xing added that her job was not affected as she was still on leave, but noted that her travel partner missed work on Monday because of the delay.

Jones Curuqara, a 43-year-old traveller from Fiji who was transiting through Hong Kong on his way to London, said he and his family had been waiting at the airport for more than 12 hours after his original Sunday evening flight was delayed.
After his connection was rescheduled to Monday afternoon, he said the experience was exhausting.
“It was tiring, especially because I stayed up late and watched my boys fall asleep,” he said.
The Fiji traveller added that the delay had disrupted his family’s remaining travel arrangements, as they had missed non-refundable bus bookings from London to Scotland, where they had planned to stay.
However, not all stranded passengers were able to secure flights on Monday, with some having to wait until Tuesday.
Filipino traveller Rhea Esgierra said her Sunday flight to the Philippines was cancelled and rescheduled for Tuesday, leaving her and her friends with no choice but to sleep at the airport.
She said that booking a hotel was not an option as they had exhausted their budget.
“We have nothing to do [about the weather], and it’s a new experience for us. We are just happy that we will finally go home [on Tuesday].”
The Hong Kong Observatory issued the No 8 typhoon signal on Saturday night and upgraded it to the No 9 warning at 1.10am the next day. About 2,000 passengers were stranded overnight at the airport.
