A video circulating online showing hikers scaling a section of a mountain connected to Hong Kong’s Ocean Park has prompted safety concerns.
The video from December 23, which appears to have been taken from a cable car at the park, shows three hikers climbing along a giant seahorse carved into the side of Brick Hill.
The identities of the hikers and how they accessed the slope were not immediately clear.
The side of the mountain appeared rugged and steep with no clear path. At least one of the hikers can be seen descending on all fours to avoid slipping.
According to a post on the park’s Facebook page, the seahorse is located along the side of Brick Hill and comprises about 3,700 trees.
It remains uncertain whether the hikers had violated any rules or laws.
The Post has reached out to the park for comment.
A separate video shared online before the incident appears to provide instructions on how to access the slope.
The path involves departing from the main path of the Ocean Park Cable Car Rescue Trail and climbing under a partially damaged section of a chain-link fence.
Some internet users criticised the hikers for putting themselves in danger.
“Don’t ask the Fire Services Department to save you!” one user wrote. “These people are asking to have an accident.”
But others claimed the hikers were not in the wrong.
“Actually, the path under the cable car on Brick Hill is open to the public, so don’t make a fuss,” one user wrote.
