The South China Morning Post came away with top honours at Wan-Ifra’s Asian Digital Media Awards on Thursday, clinching three golds and a silver.

The awards seek to recognise the best in digital publishing across the region, with this year’s event held online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On the front line with Hong Kong’s protesters won gold in the category of best use of online video. The 12-minute film by Mantai Chow follows a group of activists demonstrating in the streets during the anti-government movement that sprang up around the aborted extradition bill.

“It is an honour to win this award,” Chow said. “Being able to get up close and personal with these frontline protesters was truly a privilege and an amazing experience. I hope this film can go beyond the headlines and shed light on the human side of a divisive moment we all experienced together in Hong Kong.”
