A 33-year-old woman who operated a pet training facility in northern Hong Kong has been found dead after being mauled by a dog, police have said.
Confirming an earlier South China Morning Post report, investigators said closed-circuit television footage showed the woman working alone at the facility at Ping Yeung Tsuen in Ta Kwu Ling when she was attacked by one of the dogs there on Thursday afternoon.
Assistant district commander Matthew Chan Kai-chak of the Border police district said the woman was trying to return a one‑year‑old mongrel to its cage after feeding it in the facility at about 2pm.
The one‑metre-tall dog refused and attacked her for about a minute, leaving wounds on her head, neck, lower jaw and both arms.
A source said the dog could be a mixed breed with pit bull ancestry – a type banned from import and breeding in Hong Kong – and urged the public not to discriminate against mongrels.
CCTV footage showed the woman and the dog leaving the facility and heading towards a lawn area.
Police said they received a report at 4.12pm that a woman had been found collapsed at Ping Yeung Tsuen. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chan said the woman was the licence holder of the training centre and dog hotel, which began business at the site in January.
“When officers and paramedics arrived at the scene, the dog was wandering around her body,” Chan said.
Six other dogs were caged when the attack happened. There were no signs of any disturbance at the scene by intruders, police said.
Investigators said volunteers brought the dog to the training centre on August 11 to await adoption.
A postmortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death.
Investigators said they had no information on the victim’s health records.
Chan said the training centre was located at No 111 Ping Yeung Tsuen, the address of Pawsgate, a pet facility in Ta Kwu Ling with a 4,500 sq ft grass lawn, a dog swimming pool, indoor play areas and dog boarding and training services.

According to its social media account, the centre provides training services at its premises for dogs that have behaved so badly that they have affected the quality of life of owners for a prolonged period.
It also provides socialising training for dogs that lack interaction with other creatures and easily overreact. The facility also serves as a temporary shelter for stray dogs that people can adopt.
The Labour Department, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and forensic pathologists were at the scene for investigations on Thursday night.
A joint study by the University of Hong Kong and the SPCA in 2021 found that mongrels were the most common victims of animal cruelty in the city.
The incident comes amid citywide concern over the management of large dogs in Hong Kong, after an unleashed 60kg canine fatally attacked two smaller pets on Monday.
