Hong Kong police are investigating the death of a motorist in Yau Ma Tei after his car slammed into a fire station.
Police on Sunday said the victim, a 67-year-old man, was driving west along Waterloo Road at 11.30pm the night before, when he reportedly lost control of his car and struck the building.
The man was unconscious as he was rushed to Kwong Wah Hospital with serious leg injuries, but was certified dead an hour after the accident.
The force’s special investigation team of traffic for Kowloon West is following up on the case.
Police have called for witnesses or anyone with information to contact investigators at 3661 9062.
Provisional police data shows Hong Kong recorded 5,277 traffic accidents that resulted in injuries during the first four months of this year, the incidents also accounted for 33 fatalities.
The city recorded 17,189 injury-causing traffic accidents last year, a 14 per cent rise from the more than 15,107 cases in 2022.
The number of related deaths also rose 6 per cent over that period, going from 90 in 2022 to 96 last year.
