Hong Kong will stage a 23-minute fireworks display over Victoria Harbour on National Day on October 1 under the theme “Eternal Radiance”.
The HK$18 million (US$2.3 million) extravaganza, exclusively sponsored by insurance provider Sun Life Hong Kong, will mark the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Coordinated by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, the show will launch 31,888 pyrotechnic shells from nine firing points on three barges and six floating pontoons at 8pm.
“The display not only celebrates our nation’s achievements but also reflects our heartfelt wishes for Hong Kong’s continued prosperity and success,” Sun Life Hong Kong chief executive Clement Lam Ka-yin said.
“Through our support for this iconic annual event, we hope to bring people together, share the joy of the occasion and showcase Hong Kong’s vibrancy and unique appeal as a world-class international city.”

Fireworks designer Wilson Mao Wai-shing, head of Pyromagic Multi-Media Productions, said the display – titled “Eternal Radiance: Fireworks in Bloom, Illuminating our Country” – would unfold in eight scenes.
The company, which also designed last year’s National Day fireworks, said there would be no drone show for the second year running.
Among the expected highlights will be the second scene, set to Shirley Bassey’s “You Are the Sunshine of My Life”, featuring layered gold and red rings resembling sunflowers to symbolise hope, warmth and optimism.
In the finale, red and gold fireworks will burst like a rising sun over the harbour in a tribute to the spirit of Chinese culture.
The show will be capped by a 20-second salvo of a range of fireworks exploding simultaneously in a dense barrage of sound and a burst of spectacle, Mao said.
Temporary audio systems will be installed around the Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui and Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai.
Prime vantage points for the public holiday spectacle include Tsim Sha Tsui, Wan Chai, the Mid-Levels and Central, while RTHK Radio 4 will broadcast the synchronised background music live during the display.
