Humanoid robots, 3D printers and artificial intelligence (AI) hubs are among the newest technologies showcased at Hong Kong’s annual electronics and tech exhibition, as the city’s finance chief encourages residents to learn how to use them.
At the opening of the four-day event on Friday, hundreds of visitors crowded the 22nd Hong Kong Computer and Communications Festival at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai, exploring various AI experience zones and browsing exhibitors’ products.
This year’s festival, themed “AI connect: let’s link the future”, will run until Monday, featuring an “AI and digital transformation zone”.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said at the opening ceremony that the festival focused on the practical application and future trends of AI, which was “timely” and “highly consistent” with the direction of “AI for all”.
He said AI’s rapid advance had raised concerns over jobs, privacy, governance and security, but argued that residents who learned to use the technology effectively stood to benefit rather than be left behind.

Chan pointed to the rise of AI agents enabling “one-person companies” and even “one-person unicorns”, as individuals and small teams increasingly relied on artificial intelligence to complete large projects on their own.
“If we know how to use it and use it well, AI can become a powerful tool for enhancing our capabilities and competitiveness, and create more career opportunities for us,” he said, adding that people should enhance their knowledge, keep studying and make good use of AI tools.
Chan also noted that the government was applying AI to public services to boost efficiency, service quality and the public’s overall experience.
He said the government’s AI efficacy enhancement team had facilitated and implemented its first batch of 30 projects, with some public services seeing significantly shorter approval or waiting times after their processes were streamlined through AI.
Among the exhibitors is Blueeyes International, which is selling 10 different models of 3D printers from mainland Chinese brand Bambu Lab, priced from HK$2,000 (US$255) to about HK$20,000.
“We want to promote the brand and let more people know that 3D printing technology has become very mature in mainland China,” said Roy Wong, Blueeyes’ sales director, adding that he still saw significant room for growth in the Hong Kong market.

As a first-time exhibitor, Wong said he expected to sell about 20 printers over the course of the event.
Also making its debut at the festival was My Robot Time, which brought about five humanoid robots to Hong Kong consumers as it looked to expand into the city.
Rita Kang, representing the company, said the robots were aimed at the K-12 education market, such as coding, and priced from HK$2,000 to HK$7,000.
She said the company wanted to enhance its publicity and learn about potential customers through the festival.
Mark Li, a senior manager at On Talent Technology, showcased AI hubs, a platform that helps companies build a knowledge base, develop workflow skills, manage their information and generate meeting minutes.
It also has portable hardware for companies concerned about cybersecurity. The hardware costs a minimum of about HK$58,000 and requires an HK$8,000-per-year licence that can serve a five- to 10-person company.
“We hope to increase our approaches to consumers and make more people know our company,” he said.
A Hong Kong resident, Bernie Concepcion, 28, said he was looking for computer parts and planned to spend about HK$200 to HK$300 at the festival.
“I initially felt a little overwhelmed [about the festival], but at the same time am excited about what is going on,” he said, adding that he was considering some keyboards and a mouse.
