Hong Kong’s Department of Justice has set up a 13-member expert committee to advise on strategies for promoting the city’s legal and professional services sector to mainland Chinese businesses seeking to expand overseas.
The department said on Friday that the new Expert Committee on Professional Services for Going Global, chaired by Deputy Secretary for Justice Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan, would build on the GoGlobal platform authorities launched in December.
Cheung said the committee would gather “strategic advice from members of different professional services sectors” to help mainland enterprises.
The justice department said the 13 members would serve a two-year term and comprise experts from the legal, financial and accounting sectors from the mainland and Hong Kong, as well as business and corporate representatives.
Members for the first two-year term include lawmaker Maggie Chan Man-ki and Trade Development Council (TDC) deputy executive director Patrick Lau Hui-ping.
The department said the committee would provide advice and help on enhancing the understanding of the needs of mainland enterprises expanding overseas.

It would also coordinate with Hong Kong’s professional services sectors, including the legal, accounting and financial industries, to support mainland enterprises going global.
The establishment of the expert committee follows the launch of the Hong Kong Professional Services GoGlobal Platform last month.
The platform aims to coordinate the city’s professional services to meet the needs of mainland enterprises and will collaborate with the TDC to provide deeper and broader support.
It will integrate information related to the city’s professional sectors and publish lists of service providers supporting overseas expansion.
At the time, Cheung said the platform would also complement the Task Force on Supporting Mainland Enterprises in Going Global that launched in October.
The task force is among the initiatives outlined in Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu’s policy address in September to help mainland enterprises build their operations overseas.
