Heavy rain has led to flooding in some parts of Hong Kong’s New Territories, with some drivers struggling to navigate waterlogged roads in Tai Po even as the Observatory cancelled the amber rainstorm warning on Tuesday morning.
The amber alert, which went out at 7.15am, is issued when more than 30mm of rain has fallen in an hour or is likely to fall generally over Hong Kong within that period and is expected to continue.
The forecaster also warned of flooding in some low-lying and poorly drained areas.
“People who are likely to be affected should take necessary precautions to reduce their exposure to the risks posed by the heavy rain and flooding,” the Observatory advised, adding that residents should stay away from watercourses as there could be flash floods.
