Hong Kong issued an amber rainstorm warning on Sunday afternoon in response to intense thundery showers influenced by a trough of low pressure, coinciding with the city’s marking of the Ching Ming Festival.

The Observatory said in the morning that a band of intense thundery showers over the seas south of the city had been gradually edging closer to the vicinity of the Pearl River Delta.

The Observatory warned of flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas, and that heavy rain could lead to flash floods.
