About 60 people were evacuated and a 98-year-old woman was taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a flat in Hong Kong on Tuesday.
Police said they received multiple reports of the blaze at 488 Hennessy Road in Causeway Bay at 10.59am.
Among the 58 people evacuated were 25 women and 17 men in the building. Another 11 men and five women in a bank on the ground floor were also evacuated.
The elderly woman reported feeling unwell and was taken to Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai, police said.
At 11.39am, the Transport Department said all lanes on the section of Percival Street between Hennessy Road and Russell Street remained closed due to the incident, adding that traffic in the area was heavy.
Tram services on the Happy Valley loop were suspended, bus routes 108 and 117 were diverted, and motorists were advised to use alternative routes.
The Fire Services Department deployed 12 fire engines and three ambulances during the operation, mobilising a jet and a breathing-apparatus team. The blaze was extinguished at 12.04pm.
More than 10 firefighters wearing uniforms labelled “Guangdong Provincial Fire and Rescue Corps” were spotted at the scene.
In a social media post, the department said a delegation from the Fire and Rescue Corps of Guangdong Province and the Macau Fire Services Bureau had arrived in the city to take part in a five-day cross-boundary exchange-training programme from August 24 to 28.
The delegation observed the firefighting operations on site and gained insight into fire safety facilities in Hong Kong’s buildings, it said.
The Transport Department said at 1.15pm that traffic lanes on Percival Street had reopened and affected bus routes were gradually resuming their original routes.
