Beijing has warned of a resolute response to the Pentagon’s newly expanded blacklist of Chinese companies, accusing Washington of using national security as a pretext to curb the development of Chinese firms.
The warning came after the US Defence Department released its updated Section 1260H list on Monday as required by American law, expanding the roster to 188 entities, up from 134 last year.
The list names what the department says are “Chinese military companies” operating, directly or indirectly, in the United States and includes many of China’s technology and industrial giants.
On Saturday, China’s Ministry of Commerce said: “[Washington has] continuously overstretched the concept of national security, abused state power, and unreasonably suppressed Chinese companies.
“Such actions by the US have seriously undermined the international economic and trade order, jeopardised the stability of global industrial and supply chains, and infringed upon the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.”


The US decision made under the National Defence Authorisation Act came just a few weeks after US President Donald Trump visited China for talks with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.
The fresh inclusions highlight a broader evolution in the list from focusing largely on state-owned defence and telecommunications groups to encompassing a much wider range of commercial technology companies.
E-commerce giant Alibaba, which owns the South China Morning Post, was among the new entries, as were search and AI company Baidu, electric vehicle manufacturers BYD and Nio, pharmaceutical research and manufacturing company WuXi AppTec, robot maker Unitree, networking equipment maker TP-Link and solar companies JA Solar and Trina Solar.
The list also included battery makers CALB and EVE Energy, lidar firms Hesai and RoboSense, and display-panel manufacturer BOE Technology Group.
The Pentagon said the companies met statutory criteria for designation based on factors including alleged affiliations with Chinese state entities, military-civil fusion programmes, the People’s Liberation Army or government industrial initiatives.


In its statement on Saturday, the ministry said Beijing urged Washington to “immediately stop its erroneous practices and revoke the relevant measures without delay”.
It also urged Washington to “return to the right track of building a constructive and strategically stable China-US relationship, and provide Chinese companies with fair, just, and non-discriminatory treatment”.
“Otherwise, China will take resolute and forceful countermeasures, and the consequences and responsibility arising therefrom will rest entirely with the US side.”
It echoed comments from the Chinese embassy in Washington, which said it “firmly opposes” Washington’s overstretched view of national security and use of “discriminatory lists”.
“Chinese companies that do business overseas have been strictly observing laws and regulations of their host countries,” embassy spokesman Liu Pengyu said.
“The US should stop its wrong practice and create a fair, just and non-discriminatory environment.”
Under the US’ National Defence Authorisation Act, the Department of Defence must update the list at least annually through 2030.
Companies on the list can seek reconsideration and submit evidence to challenge the basis for their designation.
Alibaba disputed the designation, saying there was “no basis” for its inclusion on the list.
The Pentagon’s 1260H list is one of several maintained by the US as the two giants devise and hone tools to partially decouple in strategic areas.
A Section 1260H designation does not impose immediate export controls or prohibit companies from doing business with US customers. But the Department of Commerce maintains an “Entity List”, which can restrict access to US technology.
