A Chinese-made tiger’s head bag carried by Elon Musk’s young son in Beijing has prompted a wave of interest online.
Musk’s six-year-old son X Æ A-Xii, dressed in a Chinese style silk jacket, was pictured carrying the brown shoulder bag with a tiger’s face when he visited the Great Hall of the People with his father in Beijing. The photo quickly went viral on Chinese social media.
The Tesla boss was part of a delegation accompanying US President Donald Trump on his visit to Beijing, which ended on Friday.
Chinese media reported that the bag was made by Yaxiaoqi Handmade, a firm based in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in southern China.
On Thursday night the product had sold out on the e-commerce platform Taobao but was available for pre-order at a price of 338 yuan (US$50).
The firm said it had sold more than 10 times the usual daily amount and a live stream promoting the product had attracted hundreds of viewers, some of whom urged it to “ride the wave of viral traffic”.
The store now has more than 390,000 followers on the platform.

Taobao is owned by Alibaba, which also owns the South China Morning Post.
The product is hand-stitched, a process that can take weeks.
The brand told local media that the design of the bag was inspired by an ancient Chinese folk custom in which children were dressed in tiger-headed hats or shoes.
The clothing, which can be dated back to the heartlands of the Tang dynasty (618–907) in the northwest of the country, is a symbol of strength and bravery, and is believed to bring prosperity and health to the child.
Some Chinese social media users described it as good publicity for traditional culture, while others expressed their wish to buy the bag.
“This is really cute. I also want to buy one for my sons,” one user wrote.
The light blue-grey Chinese-style jacket worn by the boy also attracted attention, with media reports saying it was pure mulberry silk and made by the company Shui Cai Chu.
