The drinks are flowing, cigarette smoke hangs in the air and the music is thumping on a late night during Paris Men’s Fashion Week on a hot night in June. “It” girls Charli XCX and Gabbriette, along with the eternal diva, Madonna, arrive at the function ready to party as flashing strobe lights signal it’s time to dance. This isn’t your average rave though. This is La Watchparty, the community-first cultural phenomenon kick-started by 27-year-old content creator Elias Medini, known to his 488,000 Instagram followers as Lyas.
“Of course, you see that and think, ‘What the f*** is happening in my life?’” Medini leans back into his chair, a sheepish grin settling on his face as he considers how the decidedly anti-establishment event he originally threw together on a whim and funded himself has rapidly evolved into something the establishment now clamours to be a part of.
The set-up started out simple enough: denied entry to Jonathan Anderson’s highly anticipated debut show for Dior Men in mid-2025, Medini decided to host a watch party for it instead, bringing his own TV to his regular bar in Paris to livestream the event. The parties have only got bigger and better since. Medini has brought the concept to New York, London and Milan, and now boasts an ambitious schedule rivalling that of fashion month itself.
