With Team USA hoping to take home the trophy on home soil, one of their major players is Christian Pulisic, who is considered one of the best North American football players. However, fans and analysts have noticed an underwhelming performance this season from the four-time US Soccer Male Player of the Year winner. Analysts have commented on the 27-year-old’s inconsistency and lack of mental fortitude this season – and it doesn’t help that the football star only recently got out of an almost two-year relationship. Pulisic was romantically linked to American pro golfer Alexa Melton before their messy break-up earlier this year. So who exactly is she? Here’s what we know. Alexa Melton is a professional golf player Born on September 9, 2000, Melton grew up playing sports – possibly getting her competitive nature from her father, who played college baseball. She played softball and football, switching to golf as a tween. Despite what was considered a late start, Melton quickly climbed up the ranks, winning the Southern California Golf Association Women’s Amateur at age 17. “My dream was never to become a pro golfer, I just wanted it to get into college,” said Melton in an interview with the CBS Sports Golazo Network. Once she got into university, Melton continued playing golf, finally going professional after graduating. In 2023, she joined the Epson Tour, the official developmental and qualifying tour of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour. Melton also has a YouTube channel, where she occasionally shares golfing vlogs. She studied at USC Melton attended Pepperdine University for her first year before transferring to the University of Southern California, where she studied communications. In her second year, Melton was part of the USC Women’s golf team, but she was later kicked off without a clear reason. Despite the challenges, Melton kept her full-ride scholarship and graduated from USC in 2023. Why did Alexa Melton and Christian Pulisic split? Melton and Pulisic first started talking after the football player “slid into her DMs”, as he told CBS Sports Golazo Network. Melton posted the football player to her social media feed in June 2024, when she played at the US Open. The couple seemed to spend a lot of their time together while they were dating, from supporting each other in their respective sports to cooking and going on trips. Pulisic was the subject of a 2024-25 docuseries on Paramount Plus titled Pulisic, where he appeared smitten with Melton, describing her as “a really special girl”. Unfortunately, things came to an end for the sports power couple this February. Though neither of them made any official statement about their break-up, Melton took to social media in April, making comments that alluded to the end of their relationship. “Mans was on Raya before it even ended,” said Melton in a since-deleted comment. Raya is an exclusive platform for social networking, but also functions as a dating app, with Melton’s words alluding to there being cheating involved. But Melton later posted a statement on her Instagram Story, clarifying that Pulisic did not cheat on her. “I’ve made some comments on a private matter and it’s been taken out of context. I received false info. He is not a cheater,” wrote Melton in the post. “Any narrative beyond that is not mine. Out of respect for Christian’s and my privacy, I will not speak further regarding this matter.” In May, Pulisic sat for an interview with Time, confirming their break-up. Regarding their split, Pulisic commented, “I only look at her in the most positive way. She was a lot of fun, and she supported me in every way. She wanted to push me to enjoy my life a little bit more and do things with her and do things just in general.
