Jennifer Woo joined Lane Crawford in 1999 and spearheaded several projects including the opening of the retailer’s IFC store. For the past 20 years she has been chairman and CEO of The Lane Crawford Joyce Group, overseeing the two iconic stores as well as lifestyle brand management and distribution business Imaginex Group.

What is the most memorable fashion event you’ve been to?
Agent Provocateur’s launch party in 2005. We transformed Western Market into a burlesque club with Dita Von Teese bathing in a giant martini glass. It was the beginning of all the big fashion parties and fun events, with all the brands competing to have the best – and everyone winning.

Who are your personal style icons?
My grandmother – she was always immaculate. The Ma sisters, Joyce and Bonnae, have also set a benchmark for style not just in Hong Kong but globally, that is still talked about and referenced.
Why is Hong Kong still an important style capital?
It’s a magic formula built on our unique dynamics – our geography and heritage, which is a mash-up of East and West. It’s high-octane combustion. A fashion capital like no other.

Who’s your favourite local designer?
Kasing Lung, the designer behind The Monsters series and its breakout star Labubu. He is not a fashion designer in the traditional sense but he has created a global fashion trend that has captivated everyone from the most influential to the most influenced.
What’s next for Hong Kong’s fashion scene?
Hong Kong has always been at the centre of every luxury brand’s globalisation strategy. We had a front-row seat to the rapid expansion and democratisation of luxury globally, but now we must rebuild with stronger foundations by creating our own ecosystem of design talent through to more compelling retail and circularity of product.
