WNBA player Sophie Cunningham repeatedly made headlines earlier this year when she publicly protested the inclusion of trans athletes in professional sports.

“I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans,” the Indiana Fever guard told ESPN about the backlash she received from fans and the internet. “And I’m like, ‘I never once said that.’ I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”
More recently, however, Cunningham has been stirring the internet’s interest for an entirely different reason – it seems that the 30-year-old baller has a new man in her life.
On September 12, Fever Updates, an X page that gives Fever fans the latest news on the WNBA team, uploaded two pictures of Cunningham cosying up to Frank Adams with the caption “Sophie Cunningham revealed her new boyfriend”.
While Cunningham has yet to confirm her relationship status, here’s everything you need to know about her rumoured new man, Frank Adams.
What is Frank Adams’ background?

According to Adams’ LinkedIn profile, he attended Young Harris College in Georgia, where he studied biology from 2010 to 2013. During his time there, he was part of the school’s men’s basketball team.
He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in athletic training in 2015 from Florida Southern College and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University with a master’s degree in kinesiology, sports and recreation in 2017.
Since then, Adams has gone on to work as an athletic trainer at various universities, including a six-year stint as the assistant athletic trainer for the Phoenix Suns from 2019 to 2025.
Currently, he is employed as the head athletic trainer for Grand Canyon University in Arizona.
How did Sophie Cunningham and Frank Adams meet?

While neither Cunningham nor Adams has spoken publicly on their speculated relationship, they reportedly crossed paths during Adams’ time with the Phoenix Suns, as Cunningham was with the Phoenix Mercury at the time.
Cunningham has shared little about her private and romantic life in the past, but she was confirmed to be dating Jakob Neidig, a University of Missouri athlete, from 2019 to 2020.
