Every May, the fashion world’s attention turns to the French Riviera, where esteemed filmmakers and celebrities take over the red carpets of Cannes. A major showcase for fashion and jewellery from the world’s top luxury maisons, the Cannes Film Festival carries as much cultural cachet – and earned media value – as the Oscars or the Met Gala.
Here are some stand-out red carpet moments from the 79th annual Cannes Film Festival.
Demi Moore in Jacquemus, Chopard and Gucci

The Substance (2024) star Demi Moore is a jury member at this year’s festival, and she sure is dressing like it. Moore first made waves wearing a polka dot Jacquemus number and matching bag during a photocall ahead of the opening ceremony.

She donned a custom sequinned mermaid gown by the brand, paired with a Chopard high jewellery necklace, for the ceremony itself.

For the premiere of Paper Tiger, Moore turned to the provocative label Matières Fécales (Fecal Matter) to make a truly show-stopping red carpet statement, wearing a hot-pink couture ball gown with matching MF x Christian Louboutin satin bow pumps from the brand’s fall/winter 2026 collection. Moore worked with stylist Brad Goreski to curate her tour de force of looks.

Finally, Moore attended the premiere of Fjord wearing a Gucci look fresh off the runway, shown mere days beforehand at Demna’s cruise 2027 show in New York’s Times Square. Truly iconic behaviour.
Ruth Negga in Dior, Celine and Chopard

Ethiopian-born Irish actress Ruth Negga has undoubtedly been this year’s Cannes red carpet breakout star as another member of this year’s main competition jury. Stylist Karla Welch dressed Negga in an elegant green Dior gown and Chopard jewels for the opening ceremony.

The actress also donned a pair of stunning white Celine looks for the first jury photocall and the premiere of Paper Tiger.
Sandra Hüller in Chanel

Stylist Jordan Johnson Chung has worked with Sandra Hüller for years, resulting in a trusting partnership that isn’t afraid to veer into bolder, edgier, more experimental looks like this Chanel ensemble, which Hüller donned for the photocall of Fatherland.
Simone Ashley in Alexander McQueen and Chaumet

Fresh off her run in The Devil Wears Prada 2, Simone Ashley wore a red Alexander McQueen gown from fall 2005 and Chaumet jewellery to the screening of Karma. The actress was styled by Rebecca Corbin-Murray.
Chloé Zhao in Schiaparelli

One of the most talked-about red carpet moments this year was director Chloé Zhao’s appearance in a Schiaparelli spring 2026 couture look that resembled a sheer, spiky, sparkly blowfish.
Colman Domingo in Valentino, Boucheron and Omega

Colman Domingo in Valentino always delivers – and even more so when wearing a whole set of jewels by Boucheron, including the Lavallière Diamants brooch from the Histoire de Style art deco high jewellery collection, and a timepiece by Omega. The actor and playwright was styled by long-time collaborators Wayman + Micah.
Liu Wen in Chanel, Chopard and Roger Vivier

Supermodel Liu Wen arrived at the screening of Garance (Another Day) wearing Chanel by Matthieu Blazy – specifically, a light, feathery number exemplifying the designer’s new direction for the maison. She accessorised with Chopard jewellery and Roger Vivier heels, styled by Hugo Toucas.
Cate Blanchett in Givenchy

Cate Blanchett has had no shortage of memorable red carpet moments over the years, yet even so, this fringed floral number by Givenchy, from Sarah Burton’s fall/winter 2026 collection, stands out. The dress was first modelled by Mona Tougaard, with Blanchett the first star to wear it on the red carpet.
Daisy Edgar-Jones in Balenciaga and Boucheron

Attending the premiere for Fjord, Boucheron ambassador Daisy Edgar Jones stunned in an ethereal gown by Balenciaga and a Boucheron necklace that could only be viewed from the back, as styled by Dani Michelle. Naturally, this made for quite the red carpet moment going up the steps at the Grand Théâtre Lumière. The gown itself challenged dress codes, too, testing the no-nudity rule with its semi-sheer fabric.
Kristen Stewart in Chanel... and sneakers

Kristen Stewart has a reputation for ignoring dress codes at Cannes and dared to break two rules this time around – first, by wearing a sheer “tweed” Chanel top and skirt from the maison’s spring 2026 couture collection for the photocall of Full Phil.

Though trainers are strictly banned on the Cannes red carpet, Stewart sneaked in with them anyway, according to long-time stylist Tara Swennen, who confirmed the shoes were the star’s own. You couldn’t actually see them under this red-and-black knit gown from Chanel’s fall 2026 collection.
Charles Melton in Louis Vuitton and Chopard

Styled by Samantha McMillen, Charles Melton opted for a Louis Vuitton and Chopard pairing at this year’s festival, and looked sharp in a custom suit at the screening of Her Private Hell.
Sharon Stone in Miss Sohee and Garatti

Stone frequently works with stylist Paris Libby to create show-stopping looks well into her 60s, and this couture gown by Miss Sohee will surely go down as one of her most memorable. The actress accessorised with diamonds from Italian jewellery label Garatti.
