In the third and final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Conrad Fisher (Christopher Briney) becomes close with his new med student friend, Agnes, played by 30-year-old Canadian actress Zoé De Grand Maison. Fans immediately took a liking to Agnes thanks to her straightforward, non-judgmental nature and the way it helps balance Conrad’s emotional turmoil.

While Conrad has always struggled to share his emotions – even to his therapist – he finds comfort in Agnes and slowly opens up to her, especially regarding his feelings for Belly. Their close bond elevates Agnes to a pivotal character in the season, despite her smaller part in the original books.
De Grand Maison may already be familiar to Riverdale fans, where she played the deceitful Evelyn Evernever. In The Summer I Turned Pretty, she transforms completely to portray a role rooted in empathy and quiet resolve, showing off the actress’ versatility.
Here is what you should know about the actress behind one of the season’s most compelling secondary characters.
Zoé De Grand Maison has been mistaken for Sadie Sink

When casting for the new season of The Summer I Turned Pretty was announced, some viewers did a double take – mistaking De Grand Maison for Stranger Things star Sadie Sink. Their resemblance even sparked a brief rumour that De Grand Maison would appear in the fifth season of Stranger Things (though this was quickly debunked).
The confusion mainly stems from their shared red hair, De Grand Maison told Teen Vogue. “But honestly, such a nice compliment,” she said. “She’s beautiful and seems so cool, but no, not the same person.”
She began acting in 2012

De Grand Maison began her acting career in 2012 as Tara in the medical series Saving Hope. She soon landed a recurring role in the thriller Orphan Black, portraying Gracie Johanssen until the series wrapped in 2017. A year later, she stepped into Riverdale to create one of her most recognisable roles.
Casting for Riverdale marked the Toronto-based actor’s first auditions in Los Angeles. According to Teen Vogue, she originally read for Betty and Cheryl’s roles, but ultimately landed the part of Evelyn – a chilling character pretending to be her husband’s daughter to lure people into her cult, The Farm.
Due to her manipulative on-screen character, De Grand Maison had to deal with real-life hate from fans who blurred the lines between fiction and reality. Responding on her Instagram Story, she wrote, “Actors play characters, I don’t understand how so many people are incapable of grasping that concept.”
She’s not the biggest fan of horror

De Grand Maison delivered another impressive performance on Paramount’s horror-Western, Organ Trail, playing Abby – a brave, resilient woman who loses her family to a brutal gang and struggles to survive their cruelty. However, the actress has admitted she is not a fan of the horror genre.
She told Dread Central that she prefers a psychological thriller that “gets in your head and lingers with you for a few days”, rather than horror films that terrify her and mess with her sleep. She recalled watching Disturbia as her first introduction to horror and noted that during a recent rewatch, even the brief appearance of her favourite actress, Viola Davis, couldn’t ease her sense of dread.
She is also an artist

One of De Grand Maison’s favourite ways to unwind is through artistic expression. “It’s really important to look inward,” she shared with Teen Vogue. “I like to journal or write songs or paint. I think meditating on a certain feeling while expressing it through any art form is really nice. That’s my personal way of doing things.”

When she is not painting, she finds comfort in her beloved scents: Nemat Amber Oil and her Salt & Stone hand cream, per Elle Canada. Her idea of self-care and comfort includes slow days spent with her long-time musician boyfriend, Alex Nunes, and their dog Otis.
