The Netflix animation KPop Demon Hunters has struck a chord with audiences worldwide – whether they’re K-pop fans or not – and quickly become the platform’s most-watched animated film of all time. Its original soundtrack has also taken the charts by storm, earning it the title of the highest-charting soundtrack of the year.

At the heart of the film is the fictional girl group Huntr/x. An accomplished K-pop band by day and fierce demon hunters by night, Huntr/x is gaining considerable real-world fame, all while battling a demon boy band. Among its members is Rumi, voiced by none other than Korean-American actress and singer Arden Cho, known for her roles in Partner Track and Teen Wolf.
The film’s dramatic ending has left fans longing for a sequel, and while the continuation of Rumi’s action-filled story isn’t confirmed, Cho is set to be busy for the foreseeable future. The 40-year-old actress has secured roles in Perfect Girl, a K-pop-themed thriller also starring Hong Kong-born Adeline Rudolph, and a romcom with Margaret Cho.
Here’s what to know about Arden Cho.
She’s a K-pop fan

Cho is a long-time fan of K-pop and has been singing songs from the genre for decades. In an interview with Mashable, she revealed her love for many K-pop groups, including first-generation legends like S.E.S. and H.O.T. Her favourite is, of course, the global phenomenon BTS.
“I was covering K-pop songs since the early 2000s,” she said. “I remember I covered BTS before BTS became BTS. And then I was like, ‘I told you they were good!’ And then, you know, they got huge.”
Cho has also released her own music. Her debut single “I’m Just a Girl” was released in 2011; two years later, she debuted her first EP, “My True Happy”.
She’s a competitive poker player

Besides acting and singing, Cho has another impressive skill up her sleeve: a knack for playing competitive poker. A regular at tournaments, Cho made headlines last year for walking away with US$200,000 after taking the runner-up spot at the PGT Championship.
Speaking to PokerNews after the event, Cho reflected on balancing her busy life as an actress with her passion for poker. “With acting, I put in an insane amount of preparation and work prior to filming, and even while filming, I’m constantly putting in work,” she said. “I suppose if I want to keep playing tournaments, I should do the same for poker – but can you blame me for wanting to keep it fun and exciting?”
She recently got engaged

Cho celebrated the exciting news of her engagement earlier this April with a dreamy Instagram carousel featuring shots of a beautiful oval-cut diamond ring and rose petals scattered on a beach in Maui.
In the caption, Cho shared an adorable behind-the-scenes moment: her fiancé suspiciously went through TSA PreCheck alone as a slightly awkward way of sneaking the ring past security without Cho noticing.
Although the actress did not reveal her fiancé’s name, she often shares glimpses of their life together on social media, offering fans a peek into her personal life.
She turned down a role in Teen Wolf: The Movie

One of Cho’s most recognisable roles is that of Kira Yukimura, the sword-wielding love interest of lead Scott McCall in the supernatural teen drama Teen Wolf. After an abrupt exit before the final season, Cho was approached to join the revival movie but declined the role, citing salary inequity, according to Deadline.
Cho confirmed that, as the only actress of colour among the show’s core female cast, she was offered less than half the pay of her co-stars. That moment became an important lesson in standing up for oneself despite uncertainty and risk. In an interview with The Italian Rêve, Cho shared, “Saying no for the very first time is very hard; it’s very scary because you think, ‘Can I say no? Do I deserve to say no?’ But then, after the first time, it gets a little easier.”
