This October, Audemars Piguet will invite guests in Macau to experience watchmaking not from across a boutique counter, but from the watchmaker’s bench.
Hosted at AP House Macau – the largest AP House in Greater China – the new masterclass transforms the intricate mechanics of haute horlogerie into an intimate, hands-on encounter. Created for seasoned collectors and curious newcomers alike, the programme brings the manufacture’s tradition of passing knowledge between generations from Le Brassus to one of Asia’s most dynamic luxury destinations.

The experience begins with a quietly ceremonial gesture: slipping into a traditional watchmaker’s coat. Participants then enter a dedicated setting conceived to evoke the calm, concentrated atmosphere of Audemars Piguet’s ateliers in Switzerland’s Vallée de Joux.

At the heart of the programme is “The Path of Mechanical Energy”, a two-part exploration of how a mechanical watch comes to life and is refined. During the first chapter, guests work with Calibre 4302, the self-winding movement found in selected Royal Oak and Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet models. Comprising 257 components, it operates at four Hz and delivers a 70-hour power reserve.

Under expert guidance, participants assemble the elements that generate, transmit, distribute and regulate energy: the barrel, gear train, escapement and balance wheel. The exercise reveals a world in which fractions of a millimetre matter, and where reliability depends upon exceptional precision.

The second chapter turns from mechanics to artistry. Guests practise traditional decorative techniques, including satin brushing, circular graining and polishing. These meticulous gestures demand patience, control and sensitivity – qualities that distinguish fine watchmaking from industrial production. Each participant also creates a personalised horological keepsake.

After the workshop, the immersion continues within AP House Macau, an elegant hospitality-led space inspired by the landscapes and character of Le Brassus. Here, watchmaking, contemporary culture and conviviality converge in a distinctly Audemars Piguet expression of luxury.

The masterclass is available by appointment from October 1 to 17. Each session welcomes up to eight participants aged 16 and above. The workshops are offered in English and Chinese and cost MOP3,200 (US$396) per person.
