All eyes are on Milan this January as it co-hosts, with Cortina d’Ampezzo, the 2026 Winter Olympics on February 6-22. The Paralympics then follows on March 6-15. If you are lucky enough to be attending the sporting spectacular, look out for these venues and happenings around the city.
Where to eat: Rovello 18


Milan has its fair share of great restaurants – tried-and-tested classics like Langosteria and Il Baretto are both popular hang-outs among fashionable types. For something a bit more authentic and just as chic, head to Rovello 18 in the Sant’Ambrogio area. Focusing on the hearty cuisines of Lombardy and Piedmont, this family-run restaurant earned its first Michelin star in 1950, and is a go-to place for classics such as cacio e pepe and cotoletta alla Milanese.
Where to shop: Cabana boutique


The brainchild of publishing scion Martina Mondadori, Cabana magazine has become a reference for design aficionados. Since its founding more than 10 years ago, the interiors publication has expanded into a fully fledged lifestyle brand, offering vintage-inspired items ranging from candles to tablecloths, which you can also buy at its recently opened boutique in the heart of Milan’s luxury shopping district.
What to see: Robert Mapplethorpe exhibition


One of the most celebrated photographers of the 20th century, Robert Mapplethorpe is the subject of an exhibition at Milan’s Palazzo Reale, near the famous Duomo. The show, titled “Robert Mapplethorpe: Le Forme del Desiderio” (“Forms of Desire”), focuses on his black-and-white nudes inspired by the muscular contours of ancient Greek statuary. Sensual and striking, the photographs, mostly taken in the 1980s, are a celebration of athletic prowess and strength. Until May 17, 2026.
Where to hang out: The Wilde private club


Since opening in November 2024, The Wilde has become one of Milan’s most exclusive hang-outs. The private club is housed in the former residence of Santo Versace – brother of Donatella and the late Gianni – smack in the middle of the elegant Brera district. Designed by Fabrizio Casiraghi and decorated with art pieces selected by Ed Tang of Art-Bureau, The Wilde offers a calendar of cultural events and a selection of eateries ranging from Nina, a Japanese and Latin American concept, to Ava, which specialises in Mediterranean cuisine.
Where to be pampered (for men): Eredi Zucca


Those looking for the full Italian barbershop experience should book an appointment at Eredi Zucca, located in Milan’s centre, just minutes from the city’s luxury shopping street Via Montenapoleone. Dating back to 1652, when the Zucca barbers first started operating, the shop is a haven of men’s luxury grooming, offering services ranging from haircuts to facials. You can also discover the brand’s products, from shaving creams to fragrances, in the elegant space.
