Chinese astrology is based upon a combination of yin and yang; the five elements of fire, earth, metal, water and wood; and the 12 animals of the zodiac. A lunisolar calendar is followed, dictated by the rhythms of the solar system.
Wood Dog Month: October 8 – November 6
Elements of the month: yang wood and earth
The ninth month of the Chinese calendar is represented by the Wood Dog Jia Xu.
The Dog corresponds to the hours of the day between 7pm and 9pm.
The Dog relates to loyalty, honesty, courage and protection.
This month is all about adjustment, retreat and intention.
This is the point in the year where light and dark stand in balance. Nature is in retreat to nourish the earth in preparation for the new growth of spring. The days grow shorter in the northern hemisphere as yang energy concedes power to the deep, slow, quiet current of yin energy.

At the onset of autumn, we tend to go into complain mode; in fact, we have mastered the art to perfection! However, imagine if we lived without seasonal changes – either with an excess of yin or yang – just how limiting it would be to our coping mechanisms. So, as we retreat indoors, it’s time to adjust our daily cycle while turning inward to replenish new inspiration in our mindset.
The Double Yang Festival is celebrated on the ninth day of the ninth Lunar month. The Chinese believe that nine is a yang number, hence the ninth day of the ninth month contains excessive yang energy, which can be potentially dangerous. To protect against such danger, it is customary to keep fit and, if possible, go hiking, consume chrysanthemum drinks and boost the immune system with special herbs and remedies.
The incompatibility between the Dog and the Dragon

With October being the astrological clash month of 2024 as the Dog is the nemesis of the Dragon, distractions and disruptions can happen. The down-to-earth Dog can’t see what all the fuss is about when it comes to comparing themselves to the Dragon. It takes a lot to impress the humble Dog while the Dragon likes to be centre stage.
Not to mention, expect some powerful energy leading up to the US elections with Kamala Harris being a Wood Dragon and Donald Trump being a Fire Dog.
In traditional Chinese culture, the energy of the Dog represents loyalty and prosperity. In fact, people traditionally believed that the arrival of a stray dog to one’s house meant the arrival of wealth.
Born with a sense of loyalty, the nature of the Dog is genuine and reliable, and they are forthright in their dealings with others. Naturally disciplined and compassionate, they value consistency and care. Dogs have an uncanny sense of danger, which is why they make good animals for guarding.

Born in the Dog year: The Dog is yang earth, which represents stability. Fiercely defensive of friends and family, Dogs offer protection and loyalty to their commitments, have little judgment and enjoy spending time with any age group.
Born during the Dog month of October: You love company and have the mentality of “the more the merrier”. You love your home and take pride in owning an elegant yet efficient “kennel” to entertain and take in any stray humans who may be in need of a safe night’s sleep. You dislike injustice and will do everything in your power to fight for the “underdog”.

This is a month to confidently step out of your comfort zone and make personal breakthroughs, so consider upskilling or taking development courses. Make sure you keep your body temperature regulated to prevent catching colds, and look after your personal safety as you may be easily distracted with so much going on.
XX Dragon – be cautious and alert

If work issues arise with irritating details coming back to haunt you, don’t get mad – get help! You may feel like retreating and putting distance between yourself and others as you may be feeling irritated in general, which leads to poor communication. It will take patience and compassion to help navigate through this month just to maintain the status quo and mitigate negativity.
√ Snake – expect a busy month

It pays to remain humble and courteous, avoiding any conflict, or you might risk offending those closest to you. Be the mitigator whenever you can and if things do get too much, slither away quietly until life settles down and it’s safe to resurface!
∞ Horse – make health a priority

There could be social situations that bring you back in contact with someone special who you may have lost contact with, and that open up new doors for fun times ahead. Your charisma is strong, attracting plenty of attention. Make health a priority if you have been feeling under the weather. Stay out of any conflict or situations that will not serve you well and get you deeper down the proverbial rabbit hole. Keep your guard up by staying professional.
