Style Edit: Chow Tai Fook’s Song collection gives the Chinese drum a golden update

Few objects carry the cultural weight of the Chinese drum. Its sound has long marked moments of ceremony and celebration, from ancient rituals to family gatherings, where its rhythm has come to signify harmony, prosperity and shared joy. For Chow Tai Fook, the drum now finds a new expression in gold and diamonds with Song, a collection that translates one of China’s most enduring symbols into contemporary jewellery.

The collection takes its name from the Chinese character “頌”, associated with praise, and draws on the visual language of the drum rather than attempting a literal interpretation. At its centre is a distinctive double-drum silhouette, formed by two contrasting circular elements. The smaller form sits above the larger one, creating a visual dialogue between Heaven and Earth – an idea deeply embedded in Chinese philosophy. Together, the two shapes suggest blessings descending from above and prosperity rising from the earth.
