In a city where the day can move from boardroom to backstreet in a few blocks, footwear needs to be as considered as the suit above it. Tramezza, Ferragamo’s latest line, responds with Italian-crafted shoes built on the distinctive leather layer from which the collection takes its name. Together with a patented steel shank, the tramezza marries a solid, supportive structure with supple comfort.
Ferragamo, which draws on nearly a century of Florentine craftsmanship, has also announced a partnership with famed Italian skier and triple Olympic gold medallist Alberto Tomba. It’s a natural pairing: both shoemaker and Olympian bring discipline and performance to the way a person chooses to move through the world.

At the heart of each pair in the collection is the tramezza – a thick, flexible leather insert placed between insole and sole. This handmade layer, itself involving more than 160 distinct steps and around six hours of work, creates shoes that adapt to the wearer over time, blending old-world technique with modern comfort and durability.
Look closely and the technical narrative continues. The upper, around 12mm in height, is attached with double stitching that binds up to three layers of leather, while a patented steel shank – the cambrione, first patented by Salvatore Ferragamo in the 1920s – offers subtle support through the arch. The result is a shoe that feels reassuringly solid yet unexpectedly flexible, designed to take daily mileage in its elegant stride.
This season, the Tramezza story extends from classic Oxfords to contemporary monk straps, many crafted from hand-buffed calfskin that reveals nuanced, shaded tones across the surface. Other stand-out styles include double monks with stitched toe details, and sleek lace-ups cut from a single piece of leather, finished with lightweight Amsterdam soles and open-channel detailing. Ferragamo’s made-to-order service means that customers can also select their favourite leathers.

To underline this fusion of performance and polish, Ferragamo has invited Italian skiing legend Alberto Tomba into the fold. The holder of multiple World Championship medals and one of the sport’s defining figures, Tomba is known for his energy, precision and refusal to coast – qualities the house sees reflected in its own meticulous approach to shoemaking.
For the brand, the partnership is less about nostalgia than a willingness to do the hard work behind the scenes. For the wearer, it is a reminder that the right pair of shoes should be able to handle life’s steeper gradients – from city streets to boardroom floors – with the same composed, confident approach.
