After months of speculation about the where and when, Taylor Swift is finally about to tie the knot with American football star Travis Kelce, who proposed in August 2025 with a custom 10-carat diamond ring by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewellery, worth up to US$1 million. The pop music icon, who has a penchant for writing love songs, is surely not missing out on the right white gown for her big day. With designers like Dior’s Jonathan Anderson reportedly preparing a bridal masterpiece for Mrs Kelce-to-be, the bar is sky high. However, he’s not the only one competing for his place at the wedding, rumoured to be held in the iconic Madison Square Garden. With Swift having worn a custom black dress by Monse to a concert in Nashville just last week, rumours are flying that she could wear a dress by the New York-based fashion brand to her wedding, too. That’s not the first time Swift has worn Monse, either. The label is the brainchild of designers Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, who previously dressed Swift in Oscar de la Renta, their former workplace, for Selena Gomez’s wedding. Here is everything we know about the two designers. How did Monse’s Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia meet? Kim and Garcia first met when they were working at Oscar de la Renta. Kim got the job after a successful internship for the Dominican-born, New York-based designer’s brand, while Garcia directly reached out to the fellow Dominican, reportedly heading straight to the beachfront where de la Renta was hanging out to show him some of his sketches. In a 2021 interview with the SCMP’s PostMag, Garcia recalled how de la Renta immediately mentioned Kim when they first met: “Oscar always had this amazing sense of intuition, so I think he obviously knew something. Eventually he paired us together in his design studio and she became the yin to my yang. I was all about the fantastical and evening wear while Laura was more focused on practicality and what women wanted to wear every day.” The designers have since become best friends. “18 birthdays together!!! Thanx for being my bestie. Always adding little rainbow sprinkles, drama and bit of chaos to my day, be bored without them,” Kim wrote in her birthday post to Garcia on Instagram last year. How Monse was founded Although the two made a great match at work, they had different plans for moving forwards with their careers. While Kim dreamed of creating her own brand, Garcia’s goal was to become a creative director of an established fashion house, per PostMag. Luckily, they managed to tick both boxes. In 2015, the two left Oscar de la Renta to launch their own brand, Monse, then returned to the fashion house as co-creative directors in September 2016, before leaving again in February 2026 to focus solely on their own label. Since its start, Monse – named after Garcia’s relative – became famous for its asymmetrical designs and cut-outs, loved and worn by A-listers such as Selena Gomez, Amal Clooney, Sarah Jessica Parker and Taylor Swift. Kim and Garcia told PostMag that working for Oscar de la Renta was a real advantage when it came to launching their own line. “We met so many people at Oscar that supported us, which continued when we went out on our own,” Garcia said. “For example, a few weeks before our first show, I happened to see [former New York Times fashion critic] Cathy Horyn as she was walking by Eataly … She’s been one of our cheerleaders ever since.” What do Monse’s Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia do when they’re off-duty? Despite their tight schedules and frequent public appearances, the two told The Langham Hotels & Resorts they consider themselves “homebodies at heart”. “We have very busy schedules, but my idea of a perfect night is to stay home and watch TV,” said Garcia, who is keen on music and film.
