Athletes play a huge part in steering style trends, from magnifying sneaker hype to showcasing watches and jewellery.
And among the most stylish American athletes are those in the NBA. Fashion and the NBA have always had a unique relationship. From the days of Chuck Taylor-wearing Larry Bird, to the likes of Shaquille O’Neal and Michael Jordan pioneering the concept of pro-model signature shoes, looking the part as an NBA star can matter as much as the game itself.

Today’s players take a creative approach to style with their game-day looks and at postgame interviews. These stylish ballers are not only bringing another element of interest to the league but are influencing trends with the way they dress, and in some cases, leading trends by working with designers and luxury brands.

Here, we look at five of the most stylish players in the NBA and how their style impacts what could end up in your wardrobe.
1. Devin Booker

The Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker has appeared as many times in the tabloids as he has on the basketball court over the past couple of years. That’s thanks to his previous relationship with influencer, model and business mogul Kendall Jenner. Perhaps Jenner’s affinity for fashion helped inspire Booker’s fashion journey. But one thing is for certain: his sneaker collection began long before he started dating Jenner.

Booker’s connection to the fashion world goes well beyond his affinity for trainers. His Instagram, documenting his glamorous life on and off the court, has amassed 5.7 million followers.

He recently joined the ranks of Nike ambassadors and launched his signature shoe, the Nike Book 1. Earlier this year, Booker hid signed shoes around Indianapolis during the NBA All-Star weekend for fans to find.
2. Russell Westbrook

The LA Clippers point guard has been featured in fashion magazines, including Vogue and GQ, for his style. He’s been catching the media’s attention with his game-day look since his Oklahoma City Thunder days, favouring streetwear looks from brands like Off-White and JW Anderson. Despite his love for the latest fashion, his style isn’t about logos and monograms. Instead, the player enjoys putting together looks that combine colours, patterns and proportions.
He also founded streetwear brand Honor the Gift which is inspired by his childhood living in inner city Los Angeles.

3. Kevin Love

From modelling for brands to collaborating with leading names in American fashion, the Miami Heat centre is among the most stylish players in the league. Two years after modelling for the brand, Love collaborated on a capsule collection with Banana Republic that includes statement cashmere coats, suits, casual button ups and hunting jackets. The collection confirmed Love’s passion for fashion. Today, the star still prefers that same low-key look that screams quality rather than flashy logos. He also recently collaborated on a collection with the classic American fashion brand Ralph Lauren.
He’s taken to his Instagram to post outfits of the day with his 3.3 million followers, along the way sharing how he styles pieces from brands like Stuart Weitzman.

4. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

The Oklahoma City Thunder guard was among the few who scored an exclusive ticket to the Met Gala in 2023. Not afraid to wear colours and stand out, Gilgeous-Alexander walked the Met Gala red carpet in a custom black and white tweed look by Thom Browne. The look gave off Chanel-esque vibes, on point with the evening theme celebrating fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld’s legacy.

His look can be described as elevated streetwear – he is often spotted in oversized jackets and baggy pants with a colourful or monogrammed twist.

5. P.J. Tucker

LA Clippers centre PJ Tucker is another NBA player who embraces his love for vibrant colours. He’s particularly fond of luxury bags in bright hues. Be it a pastel pink Bottega Veneta bag, an electric blue Goyard Saint Leger backpack or the Loewe crossbody, Tucker’s style is all about adding those little details to enrich his outfits.
The player is also known for his insane 5,000-pair sneaker collection, which according to reports, includes a pair of diamond-encrusted Air Jordan 1 worth US$250,000.
